Choosing a Countertop
Quartz is engineered stone: consistent color, no sealing, and very stain resistant, but it does not love direct heat. Granite is natural stone with more variation; it handles heat well and needs occasional sealing. Laminate is the budget choice and has come a long way in looks, with square edges and stone patterns that hold up to daily use.
Thickness, edge profile, and seams matter as much as material. We show you where seams will fall before anything is cut, and we plan overhangs at islands with proper support.
Sinks and backsplashes are part of the decision. An undermount sink needs a solid-surface or stone counter, while laminate usually pairs with a drop-in sink. A full-height stone backsplash behind the range is easy to wipe down, and a tile backsplash lets you add color. We walk through these choices with samples in your kitchen so you see them in your own light.

What Has to Happen First
Counters sit on cabinets, so the cabinets have to be level, square, and fastened before we template. If yours are out of level, we fix that first or recommend new cabinet installation. Stone is heavy and unforgiving; a base that rocks will crack a slab.
A countertop swap alone usually changes no systems. Reconnecting the sink and disposal is routine, but moving the sink, adding an island outlet, or changing the cooktop circuit is licensed work, and in California a B-2 Residential Remodeling license does not cover substantial changes to major plumbing or electrical systems. When those changes need a permit, we coordinate with the City of Anaheim Building Division and build to the 2025 California Building Standards Code, in effect since January 1, 2026.

Countertop Questions
How long does countertop installation take?
After the template, fabrication usually takes one to two weeks, and installation is often done in a day. If the plan moves plumbing or wiring, the City of Anaheim Building Division inspection happens before the counters go on.
Granite or quartz?
Both are durable. Quartz needs no sealing and resists stains; granite handles heat better and has natural variation. We bring samples and help you choose based on how you cook. In older West Anaheim tract homes from the 1950s and 1960s, we also check that base cabinets can carry the weight.
What does countertop installation cost?
Material, square footage, edge profile, and cutouts set the price. You get a written estimate after measuring. California limits the deposit to a down payment of no more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less, and each later payment follows finished work.
Can you install new counters on old cabinets?
Often, if the cabinets are level and sound. We check the boxes first. If they are water-damaged or loose, putting stone on them is a waste of money, and we will tell you so.
